Five members of the New People’s Army (NPA) laid down their arms and surrendered to Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 in Barangay Keytodac, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday.

The former rebels of Guerilla Front 73 voluntarily surrendered to Lt. Col. Jose Marie T. Santos, commanding officer, MBLT2 with the unyielding support of Lebak Mayor Deonesio B. Besana and the Keytodac, Dulangan Manobo elders citing the resentful system of the NPA that are merely propagating lies to the Manobo Tribe in the towns of Lebak and Kalamansig.

The returnees were identified as Ariel Udas Apang, 29; Iyoy Lebeg Nayam, 31; Nicanor Nayam Apang, 38; Ariel Matog Apang, 36, all of Barangay Keytodak, Lebak and  Uwi Sulay Kulam of Barangay Sabanal, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.

Accordingly, the rebel surrenderers have realized that there’s no hope living with their fellow NPAs in the area and  dissatisfied of the  ideology.

The surrenderers turned over one  caliber .30 M1 carbine, one 9mm improvised Uzi, one fragmentation hand grenade and two improvised explosive devices.

Joint Task Force central commander Maj. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega said they will continue to intensify the combat operations and information disseminations against terrorist group with the support of all local chief executives to encourage other brothers and sisters who have gone the wrong path to return to the government fold and give peace a chance.
