Eluding arrest, two motorcyclists crash into backhoe
Little did the two men know that trying to elude arrest for not wearing helmets would lead to their deaths when the motorcycle they were riding hit a backhoe in Quezon City Tuesday.
Members of Fairview Police Station (PS-5) said that one of the men was Danilo Labraque, 24, a resident of Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City, while his companion remains unidentified.
Police said that PS-5 operatives were conducting ‘Oplan Bulabog’ past 1 a.m. along Omega Street in Barangay Greater Fairview when they spotted the duo without helmets onboard a motorcycle.
When they sensed the presence of police officers in the area, the two men sped off towards Fairlane Street, attempting to avoid the authorities.
Superintendent Cipriano Galanida, chief of Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit, said that the two men were speeding along Fairlane Street towards Commonwealth Avenue when they crashed into the left rear wheel portion of a backhoe parked on the sidestreet.
Both riders were rushed to FEU-NRMF Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
Security guard slays holdup man
A holdupper was killed in a shootout with a security guard responding to a taxi robbery in Quezon City Monday night.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Carlo Manzan, 58, a resident of Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City.
Prior to the incident, police said that Manzan hailed a taxi with plate number AAO-4738 driven by Rodolfo Hicap along Luzon Avenue around 9 p.m. bound for Teacher’s Village in Quezon City.
While traveling along Matahimik Street, Manzan declared the heist and at gunpoint, took Hicap’s earnings amounting to at least P1,500.
Not content with the money, Manzan shot the victim on his abdomen before he left the scene with the loot.
Meanwhile, the bleeding Hicap managed to drive to a nearby supermarket where he sought help from guard . Gienel Andoni, the duty security guard at that time. who then chased,Manzan.
The brief chase ended at the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Matalino Street where Manzan collapsed on the street due to the gunshot fired by Andoni.

Woman pedestrian shot dead
A womanwho was just walking in Taguig was shot dead by an unindentified gunman before midnight on Tuesday, just three days after two persons were also killed in the same barangay.
The victim, identified by police as Meling Doctolero, 23, a resident of Central Signal Village, died on the spot after she suffered multiple gunshot wounds on the head and the different parts of the body.
According to the residents, they only heard successive gunshots in the area before they saw the body of the victim already sprawled on the ground.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) of the Southern Police District recovered two slugs of a caliber .38 gun in the scene. They are now coordinating with the local barangay to acquire a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage that might have captured the incident.
Just this Saturday in the same barangay, two strangers from Las Piñas City were gunned down by a still unidentified suspect. Initial inquiry by the Taguig City Police revealed that the two were alleged buyers of illegal drugs. (Glendel Nazario)
