Former Ilocos Norte 1st District congressman, Roquito “Roque” Ablan Jr., passed away today at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Metro Manila. He was 85.
The politician’s daughter, Annette Ablan, shared the devastating news of his father’s passing on Facebook.
“We just lost a wonderful father, not just to us, his children, but also to the many people that ROQUE ABLAN JR nurtured and took care of. There are truly no great men or women, Only a Great God that enables some to be benefactors to men,” Annette said in her Facebook post.
“Dad, we will miss you dearly but your love and legacy will always live in our hearts and minds!!! Dad, you are now free from all pain and illness, Rest In Peace now in the Loving Embrace of Our Creator!” she added.
His daughter-in-law, Sarita Ablan, said the former lawmaker died around 8 a.m. due to kidney failure and other complications.
It was learned that he was surrounded by family members when he breathed his last.
Sarita said they were still finalizing arrangements for the wake.
One of his sons, Presidential Communication Operation Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan, posted on his Facebook account: “My dad passed away peacefully this morning. Lucky to be at his bedside when he died.”
His grandson, Laoag City Councilor Roque “RB” Ablan, described him as a “great man.”
The once eight-term congressman served his last term in the 14th Congress from 2007 to 2010. He also served as the House of Representatives Congressional adviser and consultant from 1998 until 2001.
