Iloilo City — Commendations continue to pour in for the 25-year-old Ilonggo who graduated valedictorian from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) last week.

The latest is from the Iloilo Provincial Board, which passed a resolution that lauded 2nd Lieutenant Jaywardene Galilea Hontoria, who hails from Balabag village, Pavia town.

Sponsored by 2nd District Board Member Liecel Mondejar-Seville, the resolution notes how Hontoria “has given honor and prestige to his family, hometown, and the province of Iloilo.”

The son of a farmer, Hontoria received almost all of the major awards of PMA’s Alab Tala Class of 2018. This included the Presidential Saber, Chief of Staff Saber, Armed Forces Award, Philippine Navy Saber, Australian Defence Best Overall Performance Award, Spanish Humanities Plaque, Academic Group Award, Special Sciences Plaque, JUSMAG Award, and Department of Leadership Award.

Hontoria has long excelled in school. He was valedictorian at Balabag Elementary School in Pavia and the Special Science Class of Colegio de San Jose in Iloilo City. He also earned a nursing degree from West Visayas State University in Iloilo City.
