It’s official—summer is here! You’ve probably seen it all over social media—pictures of family and friends on beach trips flooding your feed. You can feel the temperature rising and the scorching heat is most likely getting to you, especially during the day. You can even taste the summer feels because your favorite summer coolers are back in season. Anyone feel like having a halo-halo?
I don’t know about you but summer is the perfect time to go on an adventure, try new things, and create new memories that will make this your best summer yet. You can literally do anything under the sun. Suffice to say, there will definitely be fun and good times but it may not be allgood when it comes to the effects of the sun to your skin and hair. @ellatagaca, for one, is absolutely beach-ready but she also wants to make sure that she has the right tools with her for her next getaway. She asks:
“Hey Jake! I definitely love the summer weather but I’m worried that the harsh sun will have a negative effect on my skin and hair. How can I fully enjoy this weather without any worry and go spend more time outdoors?”
Everybody wants to have fun under the sun but one must also consider the drawback when the sun is out and about. It’s vital that you take steps to protect your skin when you go outside. Some of the common ways to protect yourself from the scorching heat of the sun are:
Covering up and wearing appropriate clothing to protect your skin. Use sunglasses to block and protect your eyes from the UV light.
Using sunscreen with SPF30 or higher. Don’t forget to re-apply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
Avoiding direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10am and 4pm when UV rays are said to be the strongest.
Tanning beds and sunlamps can cause serious long-term skin damage and contribute to skin cancer, so it’s best to avoid these.
These tips can help you avoid serious harm to your skin and hair but that doesn’tmean you should avoid the sun entirely. In fact, we all should “Love The Sun” instead.
“Love The Sun” is Watsons’ latest summer campaign that puts out the message that one shouldn’t be afraid of the sun. Instead, you must equip yourself with products to protect your skin and hair. Just remember the rule of thumb: Never go out without putting on sun-protection products beforehand. Whether it’s a beach trip to unwind, a road trip with friends to reach new destinations,or some outdoor sports to get your game on, you’ve got to have the right sun-protection products in your arsenal.
Your skin also deserves a recovery treat with soothing after-sun products. Of course, skin isn’t the only thing that those rays reach and is prone to damage. Hair care should not be left out too. Watsons also carries a variety of vitamins and other health supplements to get you that “summer-ready” body.
