The Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the arrest of 10 members of the Aegis Juris fraternity in the hazing death of Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, a law freshman in the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

Manila RTC Branch 40 Judge Alfredo Ampuan ordered the arrest of fraternity brothers Mhin Weig Chan, Jose Miguel Salamat, John Robin Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang Jr., Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali, and Hans Matthew Rodrigo.

It will be recalled that the 10 respondents are charged with violation of Republic Act 8049, the Anti-Hazing Law, after the Department of Justice (DJO) found probable cause to indict them over Castillo’s death.

UST, for its part, expelled eight of the accused from the UST Faculty of Civil Law, but declined to identify them.

Castillo died after undergoing initiation rites allegedly conducted by Aegis Juris fraternity members on Sept.17, 2017.
