Joshua glad to join the A-team with Eddys Awards nomination

Joshua Garcia is the youngest actor in this year’s list of Best Actor nominees at the 2nd Eddys Awards for Movies, and, already, he feels like a winner just joining that league.

“Nagpapasalamat ako kasi nominated ako. Doon pa lang, para na akong nanalo,” he said.

The young actor has been nominated by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) for playing a cancer patient in “Love You The Stars And Back.” He is up against veteran actors Ronaldo Valdez and Aga Muhlach of “Seven Sundays,” indie actor Edgar Allan Guzman of “Deadma Walking,” and rapper-turned-actor Abra of “Respeto.”

This early, netizens have been saying it’s going to be one tough fight but Joshua’s fans are rallying behind him all the way.

For Joshua, trophies are just a bonus. His aim is to prove he is a noteworthy actor, someone who deserves a spot in the industry.

“Ako naman po, hindi ko iniisip na ‘Oh dapat nominado ako diyan ha.’ Hindi ko iniisip na dapat galingan ko dito para sa award, kumbaga gusto kong galingan para sa sarili ko at para sa ikaka-angat ng career ko bilang isang actor,” he shared.

Striking while the iron is hot, Joshua will do a new movie and a teleserye right after his drama series “The Good Son.”

“Sa Holy Week lang po ang pahinga,” he said.

Oh, where to? Does he travel a lot?

“Wala pa po eh,” Joshua said. “Ako po kasi nagtitiis lang po muna ako sa kung anong meron ako. Iniipon ko lang po lahat ng dreams ako. I believe makukuha ko naman po ‘yun in time.”

Soon

Winning the heart of his leading lady Julia Barretto is one of Joshua’s dreams.

Joshua and Julia – collectively known as JoshLia – have neither confirmed nor denied being officially together. But, as far as their legion of fans is concerned, actions truly speak louder than words.

The actor set things straight: “Nanliligaw pa lang ako.”

Julia celebrated her birthday recently and, as expected, Joshua surprised her with something special. Asked what it was, he shrugged, then said, “Secret. Pero alam kong nagustuhan niya.”

The actor is happy he and Julia feel secure with what they have as “sobrang lalim na po ng pinagsamahan namin, alam kong hindi na ito basta basta matitibag.”

According to Joshua, he is slowly establishing good rapport with her family.

“(Pero) siyempre, kailangan mapasagot ko muna si Julia,” he said, smiling.

Watch out

Joshua is grateful to the loyal viewers of “The Good Son.”

“Masaya ako na okay siya rating-wise. Nu’ng nagsisimula pa lang kami (mag-shooting), hindi naman namin alam kung tatangkilin ba ito ng tao eh,” he said.

Since it started airing last September 2017, the series has brought suspense and mystery to viewers every night. The story is about the killing of Victor Buenavidez (Albert Martinez), the father of Joseph (Joshua), Obet (McCoy De Leon), Calvin (Nash Aguas) and Enzo (Jerome Ponce).

No one has been proven guilty of the crime yet and their fight for justice and quest to prove their innocence continues.

Joshua hinted that “The Good Son” will make a big revelation in tonight's episode.

“Du’n sa mga unang episodes (ng show), wala talaga kaming idea kung sino sa aming apat ang pumatay eh. Parang pinaglalaruan nga kami ng writer eh!” Joshua said, laughing. “Sobrang intense na kasi nu’ng mga pangyayari. So talagang nagtiwala na lang kami (sa production).”

The actor dismissed notion he is out to compete with co-actors Nash, Jerome and McCoy.

“Ang nakakatuwa nga po sa amin is talagang matibay na ‘yung samahan namin. Nagtutulungan po talaga kami mula simula at walang kompetensya at all,” he explained. “May kanya-kanya naman ho kaming highlights eh, lahat kami binibigyan ng sariling eksena.

“Hindi kami ‘yung tipong nang-aagaw ng eksena. Masaya ako nagiging successful ‘yung show at lahat (ng actor) nakikila. Masaya ako para sa lahat.”

“The Good Son” will air till April.

Asked about his most memorable scene on the show so far, Joshua narrated: “I guess ‘yung nasa may mga bato kami ni Jerome. Nasugatan ako du’n eh. Sobrang tatalas ng bato kaya pagkatapos nu’ng eksena, sumigaw ako ng ‘Ang sakit!’

On what viewers could expect from his character in the coming days, the actor said, “Right now, nakikita ng mga tao na agresibo ‘yung character ko. Pero wala pa ‘yun! Sa mga susunod na araw, marami pang itotodo ‘yun.”
