To guarantee safety during this time of long-distance drive, the health department advised the motorists to avoid using their cell phones while driving, same to pedestrians when crossing the streets.

Motorists were advised not to drink alcoholic beverages before driving and get a good night’s sleep before heading off on a long trip.

Drivers and passengers should always wear their seat belts when the car is in motion, while motorcycle riders should wear their helmets.

Before hitting the road, the health department said that motorists should inspect first their vehicle before leaving home, to make sure that it is functioning well and is good condition.

When driving, motorists should always follow the traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accident as well as pack enough food and water during the long trip, the health department reminded.

Thousands of motorists are expected to crowd the major roads as they set to travel to different provinces in the country for the observance of the Holy Week.
