San Miguel’s Arwind Santos was fined P20,000 by PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial on Wednesday for comments made late in his team’s 95-87 to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel the other night in their best-of-seven PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Santos drew a hefty sanction after being summoned by Marcial to explain his comments where the veteran forward apparently rued spotty officiating in a different manner.
“Parang may mga shadow yung mga players. Parang yung lima nagiging walo,” Santos said. “Parang ganun e kaya parang nahihirapan kami bantayan kasi lima lang yung kalaban, pero nagiging walo. Ewan ko kung sobrang bilis kaya may shadow? Parang ganun e.”
Apart from the hefty fine, Santos was also asked to pay an additional P5,000 for committing a Flagrant Foul 1 during Game 3 which saw San Miguel’s hold on the lead in the series reduced to 2-1. The fourth game is set Thursday, also at the MOA Arena.
Both sanctions which totaled P25,000 will surely make Ginebra fans delighted, with Santos being heavily booed since the Beermen’s stunning 104-102 win in Game 2 Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum when he had a mild exchange with a heckler.
Santos was jeered whenever he touched the ball or seen on the video scoreboard in Game 3. The 12-year veteran responded by making playful gestures at the crowd.
