Camp Ola, Albay – A former municipal administrator in Matnog, Sorsogon was killed after engaging joint operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in a shootout during the anti-drug operations in Sorsogon City last weekend.

PDEA Bicol Acting Regional Director Christian Frivaldo identified the fatality as Edgar R. Gardon, 55, the former “little mayor” of Matnog during the previous administration.

Frivaldo said the anti-narcotics operatives were about to serve a search warrant at Gardon’s rented residential unit at Balay Dormitoryo, Monreal Street, Sorsogon City at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, when the shooting broke out.

He said Gardon was the first to fire at joint elements of the PDEA-Sorsogon, Sorsogon City Police Office, and the Intelligence Battalion of the Police Provincial Office (PPO), prompting them to return fire and kill the suspect.

Half a kilo of suspected “shabu” worth about P3 million, several firearms, and live ammunition, were seized from Gardon’s apartment, Frivaldo said.
