Outstanding women of Bulacan cited

The provincial government of Bulacan has recognized the outstanding women in this province who continue to inspire and encourage the younger generation to be an advocate of gender equality and women empowerment.


The event dubbed as Gawad Medalyang Ginto 2018 was held at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city Monday afternoon.

This is in line with the celebration of the Women’s Month this March.

Luceria Diego from the town of Calumpit was awarded as the “Natatanging Babae” because of her zeal to improve her way of living while also helping to uplift the quality of life of others. She received a plaque of recognition and PHP20,000 cash incentive.

The Soroptimist International of Norzagaray headed by Aureluz Torres, on the the other hand, won the “Natatanging Samahang Pangkababaihan” due to their contribution to the community such as giving scholarships, conducting medical missions as well as feeding and livelihood programs; and tree planting. The group received a plaque of recognition and PHP30,000 cash incentive.

For the sectoral category, the municipality of Norzagaray headed by Dr. Rhodora Pesebre was hailed as the “Matagumpay na Konsehong Pambayan para sa Kababaihan” (KPK); Teresa Clemente of Calumpit as the “Matagumpay na Ginang ng OFW”; Cristina Briones of Marilao as Matagumpay na Babaeng Mangangalakal”; and Joyce Ann Vitug of Plaridel for being the “Huwarang Kabataang Babae sa Pamumuno”.

They all received plaques of recognition and cash incentives.

For his part, Vice Governor Daniel R. Fernando shared the important role of women in the society, describing them as “light of the home” that guides and enlightens the lives of every Bulakenyo family.

Former Rep. Ma. Victoria R. Sy-Alvarado, meanwhile, compared women to “shimmering stars” and said that successful women would forever shine like precious gems.

Dr. Eva Fajardo, chairperson of Panlalawigang Komisyon para sa Kababaihan ng Bulacan, encouraged Bulakenyas to be like an eagle that does not limit its strength. “Do not be afraid to dream because dreams do come true,” she said.
