For the nth time, President Duterte dispelled speculations that he was aiming to prolong his stay in power in pushing for a federal form of government.
When his term ends, the President said he would likely buy a house in the mountain and sleepit off until he dies.
“In the first place, nanalo na ako (I already won) with a whopping 16 million, the 6 of which was my margin,” Duterte shared at a business summit in Pasay City Tuesday.
“After this, I would be nobody. I’m a goner. The best way for me is to buy a house in the mountains and sleep it off until I die. Wala na akong gagawin (I have nothing else to do),” he added.
The President’s term will end in 2022 but in several forums he has constantly aired his desire to step down as President earlier if the federal government – one of his campaign promises – is already in place.
For now, the President vowed to sustain his campaign against drugs, crime, and corruption until the end of his term.
“Not during my time, my watch. Huwag sa panahon ko kasi mag-away lang tayo(Not during my watch because we will just fight),” he said of his warning not to use drugs and stop corruption and vowed to be harsh.
He said he does not enjoy lowering the ax on public servants but would not hesitate to dismiss those involved in corruption and other anomalies.
He said the government’s anti-corruption campaign would also continue “with or without” the International Criminal Court inquiry and human rights criticisms.
“The war against drugs will continue with or without the ICC, with or without the human rights, with or without the politicians,” he said.
“It will last until the last day of my term as President. After that, wala na akong pakialam sa inyo(After that, I don’t care anymore),” he added.
