Joy ride turns deadly for teenagers in Agusan del Norte

Butuan City – A 15-year old Grade 9 student was killed, while his back rider, another minor, was seriously injured, Tuesday, when the motorcycle they were riding in collided with a speeding van along the along the national highway of Zone 2, Poblacion 2, Santiago, Agusan del Norte, police reported Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as Brayel P. Sandag, a resident of Barangay Pangaylan, Santiago town, Agusan del Norte province. He was declared dead on-arrival at a local hospital.

Seriously hurt was Cyril P. Jusay, 14, also a Grade 9 student and the victim’s neighbor. He was immediately brought to Cabadbaran District Hospital in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte for medical treatment.

Initial investigation conducted by the Santiago Municipal Police Station (MPS) showed that Sandag was driving a motorcycle with Sandag as back rider from Barangay Pangaylan. They were about to enter the national highway when they collided with a van driven by Froilan O. Homecillo, 43, who was travelling from Surigao City to Butuan City.

Homecillo surrendered to Santiago MPS, while both vehicles involved in the accident were impounded for further investigation and proper disposition, the police report further added.
