The Lady Tamaraws came with sharp horns to prick some bubbles.
Far Eastern University dealt National University its first loss in the season with a 25-22, 25-27, 25-13, 25-20 victory yesterday in UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
In instilling doubt on the erstwhile unflappable Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Tams banked on their solid serves with 15 aces, exposing NU’s sloppy reception, to hike their win-loss tally to 4-2 and arrange a three-way tie at second spot with the Ateneo Lady Eagles and the La Salle Lady Spikers.
Bernadeth Pons spearheaded FEU’s assault with 18 points while Toni Basas added 16 points, including combined 30 attacks.
Jaja Santiago was limited to only 13 points as the Lady Bulldogs saw their five-game winning run come to an end although they kept their hold of top spot.
University of the Philippines finally snapped a four-game losing spell as it survived University of Santo Tomas, 31-33, 25-23, 25-16, 25-12.
The Lady Maroons rode the sterling performance of outside hitter Tots Carlos to improve their win-loss tally to 2-4 and tie the Tigresses at sixth place.
Carlos showed her worth by pumping in 32 points built on 27 attacks, three blocks and two aces, while getting reinforcement from Isa Molde, who exploded for 24 points, including 23 hits.
UP provided a tough defensive wall, posting 14 blocks, including nine from the combined efforts of Maristela Layug and Marian Buitre.
