A member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was allegedly killed by a communist sniper of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro Saturday, the MIMAROPA Police Regional Office (PRO-4B) revealed yesterday.
A bullet straight to the chest ended the life of Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) Domingo Berber, said Chief Inspector Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of the PRO-4B.
According to Tolentino, Berber was at his detachment unit in Sitio Cambayang, Barangay Cabugao when he was shot by a sniper around 8:30 a.m.
Tolentino said Berber was immediately killed after sustaining a gunshot wound in the right chest after a shot from the sniper, whose estimate location was placed 200 meters north of Berber’s patrol base.
Tolentino condemned the attack which she described as a “harrassment” from the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP).
Tolentino said authorities have already conducted a pursuit operation against the suspect.
The attack was conducted amid President Duterte’s preparation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Army for an all-out war against communist rebels.
