Various gatherings will be held not only at the EDSA People Power monument, but also in other parts of the country, with Vice President Leni Robredo asking Filipinos to wear white, instead of yellow, to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the People Power Revolution.
Unlike last year, Robredo will be in Naga City, along with her fellow Bicolanos, tomorrow, February 25, to remember the bloodless revolution of Filipinos that toppled late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.
“We will have mass at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish Church to commemorate EDSA. I’ll be there as well as Congressman Gabby (Bordado Jr.) and Naga City officials. Everyone is invited,” she said in Filipino.
Other activities will simultaneously take place in the provinces of Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Cebu, and Siargao Island in commemoration of EDSA anniversary, according to Robredo. Robredo, who defeated the late strongman’s son and namesake in the 2016 vice president elections, emphasized that the nation should continue celebrating People Power.
“I think it’s important that we do not only celebrate what happened but also remember the lessons from it,” the Vice President stressed.
While previous People Power commemorations feature a sea of yellow seen in shirts and confetti, Robredo called on Filipinos to wear white to “show unity” among them.
“The celebrations are simple. We are doing this so the lessons of EDSA would not be forgotten,” she said.
