The Department of Labor and Employment is set to come out with a web-based alert system which overseas Filipino workers can download as an App in their cell phones.
“We will be coming out with a web-based alert system, which OFWs can easily download. With just one push of the alert button, help will immediately come to them,” DOLE Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad said in a press briefing Wednesday.
He said they intend to introduce the alert system in Kuwait.
Lagunzad and a team of senior government officials are set to leave tomorrow (Thursday) to go to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to assess the situation of Filipino workers there and to recommend actions to deal with their situation.
“Kami po ay pupunta sa Kuwait, Saudi Arabia at Qatar bukas upang siguraduhin na ang ating mga OFW ay may spat na proteksyon,” he said.
“Pupunta kami doon para alamin kung ano kalagayan nila at ipatupad utos Presidente,” added Lagunzad.
He said they will report their findings when they get back in March.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is reinvigorating their One Stop Shop for OFWs.
“We will provide thru our ASSIST WELL centers…once again DOLE agencies will provide assistance in terms of welfare, employment, livelihood and legal assistance,”OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said.
He said they are also establishing a command center for the processing of claims, complaints, issues, and concerns of those who have just returned from Kuwait.
