Morissette Amon could be the next Filipino to have a breakthrough in the international music scene.
Early this month, the singer posted a photo of herself with American record producer and songwriter Rhett Lawrence, famously of “Vision Of Love” by Mariah Carey. She captioned the photo quoting Rhett: “A door opening may be ‘luck’, but it’s what you do after that matters…”
It turns out Rhett was in the Philippines over the holidays to spring a “sweet surprise” on Morissette though she did not elaborate what it was. She looks forward to seeing Rhett again.
“Cheers to everything that’s yet to come,” she wrote.
Apart from Mariah, the producer has worked with Kelly Clarkson, The Black Eyed Peas, Whitney Houston, Enrique Iglesias, Monica, and many others.
It wasn’t the first time the singer posted a photo with Rhett. In September last year, she shared a series of photos on her Instagram account that shows her visiting the American major record label Capitol Records in Los Angeles, California, United States.
At a recent press conference, Morissette said it began with Rhett watching her “Birit Queens” concert with other stars in Los Angeles.
“He was impressed naman,” she said when asked if she got feedback from Rhett for that performance.
It was the producer who invited Morissette to drop by at Capitol Records where she saw how they record music. The label is home to artists like Katy Perry, Sam Smith, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles.
“Pinakita niya sa’kin lahat ’yung takbo doon sa recording nila, ’yung booth nila,” she shared.
Morissette said then that it was the “highlight” of her trip.
She admitted feeling overwhelmed being granted that tour where all the “magic” happens.
“That was the time na marami kaming pina-plan,” she said. “He’s very open in working together.”
Although nothing is certain at this point, Morissette is hoping for the best.
“(Ang) laki din kasi ng tiwala niya sa akin. I’m just really grateful that he is just very supportive as a friend and as a producer,” she enthused.
The 21-year-old singer said it is her dream to become an international artist.
“I really want to share what I have with the rest of the world,” she said. “Taking all of these things is very essential kasi ang dami kong natututunan. I’m blessed that a man or a producer like Rhett Lawrence, who is very God-fearing, ay alam niya ’yung takbo ng industriya. And he knows what to do and what not to do so excited ako for our upcoming journey.”
Arnel and Wish connection
The privilege to meet Rhett happened through Filipino singer Arnel Pineda.
It was her cover of “I Finally Found Someone” on Wish 107.5 Bus with the Journey lead vocalist that made Rhett look up Morissette’s other works.
Wish seems to be her lucky charm. As proof, Morissette bagged numerous recognitions in the recently concluded Wish Awards. These were the Wishclusive Pop Performance of the Year, Wish Artist of the Year, Wish Reactors’ Choice, and three Wishclusive Elite Circle of Bronze, Silver and Gold award for reaching 10, 25 and 50 million YouTube views respectively for her performance of cover songs on the Wish Bus.
The station, together with Stages and RankOne Productions, is presenting Morissette’s first major solo concert “Morissette Is Made” at the Big Dome on Feb. 20. She promised that concertgoers will see her evolution as artist.
What’s with the title, we asked.
“Feeling ko kasi if binigay sa akin itong opportunity na’to ng mas maaga I won’t be able to do it. So I’m grateful for everything that I’ve achieved and learned. Kaya ngayon na mangyayari na siya ang dami ko ng dala o bitbit (na materials) for the concert,” she said.
Unless people think Morissette has become complacent, the singer stressed “I don’t want to stop there.”
“I’m still exploring everything that I like to do,” she said. “Gusto ko na tuloy-tuloy pa rin ’yung progress ko as an artist.”
And, yes, the lady is nervous over the coming concert.
“I’ve been trying to balance everything. I’ve been trying to help the team conceptualize the concert and at the same time I’ve been trying to get time to rest kasi siyempre Araneta (Coliseum) is so big,” she said on how she handles the feeling.
Morissette promised the repertoire has “powerful” numbers and those that will show off her versatility.
“Most of the things I will do ay ’yung mga bagay na hindi na-ibibigay sa akin na chances and platform,” she said. “When we are planning the repertoire, tsinallenge talaga ako ng team ko na ’wag mag-stick sa puro birit lang at ’yung mga usual na napapanuod ng tao sa akin.”
“Morissette Is Made” is directed by Paolo Valenciano. Arnel is her special guest performer.
The singer keeps close to heart what a friend once told her.
“This is your chance to make the stage your playground and showcase what you want to do, what you can do.”
Mowienaticks, get ready.
