Widening of two roads and construction of two bridges were recently completed in Occidental Mindoro, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Wednesday.
The two road sections, namely Calintaan to Sablayan Road section and Sta. Cruz Road section and two bridge components along Mindoro West Coast Road were among the big-ticket projects of the agency in 2017, costing P1.1 billion.
According to Project Director Virgilio Castillo of DPWH-Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Roads Management Cluster, the projects involved the concreting and widening the two road sections.
The bridges that were completed were the 518.4-lineal meter Sablayan Bridge and the 91.6-lineal meter Puntabanga Bridge, Castillo added.
DPWH said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) allocated P916.6 million for the rehabilitation of the 43-kilometer Calintaan to Sablayan Road Section and P204.5 million for the 6-kilometer Sta. Cruz Road section.
It added that the completed projects along Mindoro West Coast Road “are among the many infrastructure projects that were funded under the JICA loan.”
In 2016, DPWH completed the improvement of the two-kilometer Mamburo section and the paving and widening of the 23-kilometer Rizal to Calintaan section of Mindoro West Coast Road, with P13.6 million and P288.3 million funds, respectively, after completing the concreting and widening of the 6-kilometer Sablayan to Sta.
