A taxi driver, who was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, was shot dead by an unidentified suspect while he was inside his cab in Quezon City early Monday morning, police said.

Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Joseph Ocampo, 52, of Barangay Batasan Hills in Quezon City. He died on the spot after sustaining four gunshot wounds in the head, they added.

According to a man living nearby, he was sleeping at around 3:30 a.m. inside his house when he heard successive gunshots. When he peeked, he saw Ocampo already bloodied while sitting on the driver’s seat of his taxi with plate number UVB-762.

Police said that Ocampo’s vehicle was parked in front of a store on Katuparan Street in Barangay Batasan Hills when the still unidentified gunman passed by and shot him.

Four pieces of empty shells were recovered in the scene.

Investigators cleared robbery as motive since his earnings are intact. They were eyeing Ocampo’s supposed illegal drug activities as the motive behind the killing.

Information gathered from the Barangay Batasan Hills officials showed that Ocampo was arrested and released last year for a drug-related case. Officials claimed he still continued his illegal drug activities.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
