Flights to and from Legazpi, Naga and Masbate were cancelled today due to a threat of an exploding Mayon Volcano that may jeopardize the safety of passengers of Philippine Airlines (PAL).
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a Notice to Airmen as Mayon continues to produce lava and cause volcanic ash clouds.
Due to heightened alert raised by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Mayon Volcano, the following January 23 PAL flights were cancelled:
- PR 2921 Manila – Legaspi
- PR 2927 Cebu – Legaspi
- PR 2965 Clark – Naga
- PR 2621 Clark – Masbate
In view of the volcanic eruption, the Legazpi Airport was declared temporarily closed for operations Tuesday at 2:10 p.m.
Passengers affected will be assisted in the rebooking of their flights and in refunding the full cost of their tickets. For flight information, call PAL hotline (02) 855 – 8888, log on to www.philippineairlines.com or visit the nearest PAL ticketing office and partner travel agent.
PAL advised passengers to await further announcements regarding their flight schedules. PAL flights will resume once the situation normalizes. (Marjaleen Ramos, MB Online)
