Even for multi-awarded Jodi Sta Maria, playing dual roles on “Sana Dalawa Ang Puso,” her first time to do so, can be challenging most days.
“Hindi naging madali ’yung proseso ng paggawa ko nu’ng dalawang karakter kasi may mga araw talaga na kailangan kong lumipat from Lisa to Mona, or minsan du’n sa Mona kay Lisa, or minsan sa isang araw, papalit-palit sila,” she said.
On the soap, she takes on two different persons with identical faces. First is Lisa, a hardworking boss at their family business, the Laureano Group of Companies. Her doppelganger Mona, on the other hand, is a collector of bets in cockfights in her province.
“Pero before naman ako nag-start sa proyekto na’to, nakundisyon ko na rin naman ’yung sarili ko na mangyayari naman talaga ’yun. When we were starting, tinulungan din naman ako ng production by doing one character at a time hanggang sa magamay ko siya. And then nu’ng nakita naman nila na kaya nang magdalawa sa isang araw, nangyayari na and para na kasi ’yun sa ikadadali ng produksyon,” she said.
Jodi reveals asking help from acting coach and co-star Carla Martinez on delineating the line that separates the two characters. The costumes cue her on which character is on when the cameras start rolling.
Will she eventually use a double?
“’Yung proseso po ng pagkakaroon ng double – na kung after on ire-require ng istorya na magkaroon ng double – eh ’yung production na po ang bahala du’n,”she said.
But of course, “Sana Dalawa Ang Puso” has two leading men for Jodi’s characters. First is her “Be Careful With My Heart” partner Richard Yap, then there’s the fresh pairing with Robin Padilla.
Jodi assured fans she and Richard will exhibit new dynamics.
“It’s always a joy working with him,” she said. “Si Richard kasi ’yung itsura niya, mukha lang seryoso pero sa totoong buhay sobrang kalog niya.”
She is also thrilled to work with Robin.
“Kasi nakikita ko lang siya sa billboard, napapanuod ko lang siya sa telebisyon nu’ng bata ako tapos ngayon parang ’yung big star eh makakasama mo na, makaka-trabaho mo. So talagang na-excite ako nu’ng nalaman ko na makakasama ko ang isang Robin Padilla sa isang show.”
The actress is all hallelujah’s for Robin’s passion at work.
“’Pag nasa set siya lagi siyang prepared. Siya ’yung tipo ng artista na talagang sasabihin niyang ‘Hindi, mag-read lines tayo,’” she said.
Who’s more lovable between Robin and Richard?
“Wala dapat comparison. Hindi dapat mag-compare because they’re two different people. They’re two unique individuals so walang comparison. Bawat isa sa kanila may kanya-kanyang strengths. Magiging unfair ako kung magko-compare ako,” she noted.
According to Jodi, among Robin’s strong points is being charming and a gentleman. For Richard, it’s his intelligence and sense of humor.
“Sana Dalawa Ang Puso” premieres on ABS-CBN’s PrimeTanghali noontime block on Jan. 29.
Busy as she is, Jodi makes time to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
The 35-year-old actress is currently taking a course in Psychology.
“Siguro nagsisimula lahat ’yan sa unang-una gusto ko talagang bumalik sa pag-aaral so I have one day na allotted sa school and that is every Tuesday three p.m. to five p.m. ’Yung araw na ’yun hindi ko talaga pinapagalaw and my family has been very understanding and supportive,” she shared.
Time management all boils down to how eager a person is to reach a goal, Jodi said.
“So it’s really about finding the time to do something that you like and fighting for that dream.”
Jodi was recently honored as dean’s lister, landing the seventh spot for the entire batch; and first spot among Psychology major students.
“Pero siyempre hindi po madali ’yung journey ko ngayon sa life because marami pong ginagawa but then I really make sure na meron pa rin po akong time to rest and to relax,” she said.
