Iloilo City — Around 5,000 officials led by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. have joined the ruling party PDP-Laban.
Speaker and PDP-Laban Secretary General Pantaleon Alvarez swore in the new party member Thursday in Pototan town. The officials are from the province’s 3rd District.
Among those who joined are the governor’s sons Rep. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. and Board Member Lorenz Defensor, and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
Mayors Alex Centena of Calinog town and Mar Malones of Maasin town also joined PDP-Laban. The two mayors had been previously named by President Duterte as narco-politicians, but claimed their names since have been cleared.
Even though Iloilo suffered an image backlash from the drug war, the governor reiterated his support to the Duterte administration and assured that Ilonggo officials are “part of the solution”.
The President had disparaged Iloilo as the “bedrock” of illegal drug trade.
