4-magnitude quake shakes Davao Oriental

BUTUAN CITY - A magnitude-4.0 earthquake shook Banganga town in Davao Oriental Friday afternoon,  the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no Pacific-wide tsunami threat was expected from the 6.5-magnitude earthquake, and there was no specific threat to Hawaii (AFP Photo/Frederick Florin) / MANILA BULLETIN (AFP Photo/Frederick Florin) / MANILA BULLETIN)

The state agency said it does not expect any damage and aftershock.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was registered at 2:26 p.m. The epicenter was traced at 121 kms, northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental province.

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of 24 km.

The Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense also reported no damage or injury.
