Heavy rains flood Cebu towns

Cebu City — Two days of heavy downpour have caused flooding in nine Cebu municipalities.

The floods hit Danao City, municipalities of Compostela, Sogod, Tabogon,Poro and Asturias in the north, and the towns of Minglanilla and Tuburan and Danao City in the south.

Rhafael Luche, head of the Cebu Provincial Emergency Response, Search and Rescue, said two houses were washed away by floodwaters.

Luche said that in Tuburan, 60 families were forcibly evacuated after they refused to leave their flooded homes.

Classes were also suspended in the flooded areas.

Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Public Information Officer Jules Regner also confirmed that 7-year-old girl, Danilyn Matugas, drowned while trying to cross the swollen Malingin River in Linao Danao City.

Regner said the body of the Grade 1 pupil at the Langosing Elementary School has been recovered.

CPDRRMO is closely working with DPWH in clearing flooded roads of debris and in monitoring flood-stricken areas.
