In the fashion spotlight recently was Japanese-American designer Tadashi Shoji, presented in a gala show in line with Rustan’s 65th anniversary celebration. Tadashi’s collection imparted modern sensibility and luxury, exemplary of the Tadashi brand and which were crafted exclusively for Rustan’s. Rustan’s top honcho and society doyenne, Nedy Tantoco, said, “Tadashi Shoji is a truly talented designer and a visionary who understands the needs and wants of his discerning clientele, and Rustan’s is honored to have him join us as we celebrate 65 years of creativity, innovation, and luxury, all of which he embodies.”

Standouts from the collection were his lace dresses with sheer panels, embroidery, velvet dresses, floral brocade coats, velvet gowns in royal blue, forest green, cardinal red, as well as his sequined draped gowns. The man clearly showed a penchant for opulent textures and rich color palettes. Tadashi‘s inspiration was the youth’s revolutions of the late ’60s and ’70s from Tokyo, Paris, and New York. His is a lifestyle brand that embraces luxury for the everyday life and designs for the new, dynamic woman.

Tadashi welcomed guests and clients in an intimate “meet and greet” reception at Rustan’s Makati and shared his expertise in style, recommending pieces from his collection. “Rustan’s has paved the way for me to share my designs with the Southeast Asian market, particularly the Filipinos,” he said.
