1 dead, 6 hurt in Calamba City road crash

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A 40-year-old truck driver died and six persons were injured in a road accident in Barangay Real here on Sunday night.

Police identified the victim as Jowel Balanac from Tayabas City, Quezon.

Investigation said Balanac lost control of the truck and rammed seven vehicles – Sports Utility Vehicle, Toyota Innova, a wing van truck, passenger jeepney, Mitsubishi Adventure, a car, and a motorcycle.

The truck continued and stopped after ramming a concrete post in an overpass.

Six persons were injured – Balanac’s two helpers, three women passengers of the SUV, and a jeepney passenger.

Balanac and his companions were stuck but retrieved by rescuers. They were taken to a hospital here where Balanac was declared dead. The injured were treated in a hospital.
