Remarkable Remarks
MANILA, Philippines — Spoof of the Quotable Quotes in the American monthly Reader’s Digest, public statements given to media by various personalities are compiled in this section to become this week’s Remarkable Remarks. Here they are:
“Bagay sila ni Noy.” – Presidential sister Kris Aquino, on visiting Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who is attractive in mid-40’s, and reportedly a single mother.
Kris’ match-making insinuation may prove futile again. The lady PM is said to have a Thai businessman for a boyfriend, and one of his macho assets is bushy hair!

“President Aquino wants the next NBI chief to be tough and clean.” – Secretary Edwin Lacierda, on potential successor to Magtangol Gatdula who was relieved.
Some of the previous directors were just tough but not clean, others were just clean but not tough.

“The administration has not fulfilled its promise of reform and made little progress in ending impunity for abuses by state security forces.” – Human Rights Watch World Report 2012.
The group must be concerned with the continuous escape from arrest of one retired Army general accused of kidnapping suspected student leftists.

“I’m very happy that I’ve found you.” – Rep. Roman Romulo, groom; “I promise to love you from now and forever.” – Councilor Shalani Soledad, bride – while exchanging marriage vows Sunday, January 22, at a Sta. Rosa, Laguna, church.
One invited guest was somewhere 275 kilometers away. Must be hurting!

“It is unfortunate that the minority is now hopelessly split, further weakening the merger of Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats.” – Former Speaker Joe de Venecia.
My R1 worth of advice – Re-group in 2013, hire a crack advertising copywriter to come up with an arresting name for a new political party.

“The days of ‘ghost’ employees and workers are numbered.” – ARMM acting Governor Mujiv Hataman, attempting to end the bleeding of government coffers in the region induced by padded payrolls and ‘ghost’ personnel.
The governor should be more wary of the "live" ones.

“We are now reiterating our appeal to him (President Noynoy) to protect Sierra Madre, to ensure the bright future of our tribe.” – Ramcy Estoveza, head of Agta Tribe in the region, on unabated logging in the mountain range, and to stop its destruction.
They hurled the ominous warning while clutching their bows and arrows.

“The full enforcement of anti-smuggling laws and the imposition of maximum sanctions to those who violate them.” – Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, with 35 smuggling cases already filed since 2010.
But the people are still waiting for just one conviction!

“Save the environment, bring your own recyclable/reusable bags.” – Text on posters that will soon be displayed in retail establishments in Quezon City, following the city council’s approval of an environmental protection ordinance authored by Councilor Dorothy Delarmente.
Let’s go for it!
