Freego bags 1st finals slot
MANILA, Philippines — Eric Camson came through with two crucial foul shots with three seconds left in overtime as Freego Jeans outlasted Cebuana Lhuillier, 69-67, and clinched the first finals slot in the PBA D-League Aspirants Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
After getting fouled by Terrence Romeo, Camson calmly sank both foul shots to put the Jeans Makers ahead, 68-66. But he almost turned into a goat when he fouled Pari Llagas with two ticks left.
Good thing, Llagas missed his second try that brought Freego’s Bacon Austria to the free throw area after being fouled. Austria missed both his free throws but the Gems were slapped a technical for excessive timeouts when Romeo, who grabbed the rebound, signalled for a timeout with 1.3 ticks left.
Lester Alvarez sank the free throw to settle the final count.
In the first game, North Luzon Expressway survived Big Chill’s massive comeback to hack out a 69-62 victory and force a knockout match in their own semis series.
