MANILA, Philippines — Talk N Text moved to within a win from ruling the PBA Philippine Cup with a rousing 133-126 win over Powerade Wednesday night in Game Three of their best-of-seven series at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Ranidel de Ocampo, who had 21 points, provided the telling blows in TNT’s crucial victory as he hit five of his team’s 12 points in extra period, including a triple that gave the Texters a 126-121 edge with 4:17 remaining in overtime.
Before De Ocampo took the spotlight, Jason Castro had an easy layup to start the OT and after De Ocampo’s trey, Ali Peek split his charities before JV Casio shoved the Tigers closer at 123-127, 2:15 left.
Larry Fonacier led TNT with 25 points, while Ryan Reyes added 19 markers. Ali Peek collected 19 and nine rebounds, Kelly Williams added 14, while Jayson Castro and Jimmy Alapag had 10 points each.
Powerade’s top gunner Gary David exploded for 36 points, but he only had a single marker in OT--a charity split-- going 0-for-5 from the field.
Sophomore forward Sean Anthony and rookie forward Marcio Lassiter had 25 points apiece, but both were scoreless in the extra period. JV Casio, who sent the game to OT with a triple with 1.2 seconds to play in regulation, finished with 18.
Doug Kramer had 14 points and career-best 23 boards.
“Before the game, I told my team just one word, and that’s hunger. I told them that this game will be determined by hunger,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes.
TNT is hoping to become the sixth team to score a sweep in a best-of-seven series, fourth in the championship round. The last team to score a 4-0 win in a seven-game showdown was B-Meg (formerly Purefoods) versus Alaska in 2009-10 Philippine Cup.
Meantime, the PBA Board of Governors unanimously voted yesterday that gives permission to Air21 (formerly Shopinas.com) as the team with sole rights to negotiate and get naturalized Marcus Douthit as import for the Commissioner’s Cup starting Feb. 10.
Salud announced this development before Game 3.
“After due deliberation, the Board has decided to step aside and allow Air21 to negotiate and engage the services of Marcus Douthit for the second conference,” Salud said.
