Bosh powers Miami past Cleveland

January 25, 2012, 10:21pm

MIAMI (AP) — LeBron James was not at his best, and a game against his former team was slipping away. Chris Bosh made sure that didn’t happen.

Bosh scored 17 points in the fourth quarter – the biggest final period by any Miami player this season – and finished with a game-high 35 points, carrying the Heat to a 92-85 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

Bosh shot 10 for 16 and reached the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season as Miami improved to 4-1 against Cleveland since James joined the Heat.

“Whenever I play and I don’t hesitate, good things happen,” Bosh said.

He was all about the points down the stretch, literally and figuratively.

The 17-point final quarter matched the third-best of his career, and he capped the night with a pair of fingerwags— one at one of his shots as it hovered on the rim before falling to begin a three-point play, the other at wife Adrienne after his jumper fell for an 84-76 lead and finally allowed Miami to exhale.

“I think he made the biggest adjustment with this whole situation,” James said, referring to the moves that allowed he, Bosh and Dwyane Wade – who sat out again with a sprained right ankle – to team up in July 2010. “He’s done it before.” The 35 points matched Bosh’s high since joining Miami.

KNICKS 111, BOBCATS 78

In Charlotte, Carmelo Anthony was held to a career-low one point and the New York Knicks still won by 33. Yep, that’s crazy.

And yet that’s exactly what happened Tuesday night as the Knicks routed the Charlotte Bobcats, 111-78, to snap a six-game losing streak.

Tyson Chandler had 20 points and 17 rebounds to help the Knicks overcome another poor shooting night from Anthony, whose only point came on a technical free throw in the third quarter.

Anthony missed all seven shots from the field.

Only once in his previous 42 games with the Knicks had Anthony failed to finish in double digits. That came last March 18, when he had six points. His previous career low was two points when he was with the Denver Nuggets.

Anthony did contribute 11 rebounds and four assists.

“Sometimes defenses are going to load up on him because they understand he’s our number one option,” said Chandler. “So when they load up and he hits the open guy like he did tonight, we’re still effective – and he’s still effective – because of that.”

MAGIC 102, PACERS 83

In Indianapolis, Dwight Howard reached a new high with the Orlando Magic.

Howard had 14 points to become the Magic’s all-time leading scorer in Orlando’s 102-83 victory over the Indiana Pacers.

“It’s a humbling experience,” said Howard, who began the game needing just eight points to break Nick Anderson’s mark. “It does mean a lot. Not too many players in this league can say that they were their franchise’s leading scorer.”

Howard, fifth in the league in scoring with 20.1 points per game, picked up his third foul early in the second quarter and sat for most of the first half, before breaking the mark early in the third.
