Imus reviving 'Flag Capital' logo
IMUS, Cavite — Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi assured over the weekend that the town’s Flag Capital of the Philippines brand logo and the Wagayway Festival in the area would be revived by his administration in time for the celebration of National Flag Day on May 28 and the June 12 Independence Day.
Maliksi also revealed that some officers would be designated to key positions in a bid to improve further their performance and services in and out of the town hall..
Raymond Arguelles, Sangguniang Bayan (Town Council) secretary, said that the mayor assigned for the meantime Lorenzo Reyes as chief of Civil Security Unit (CSU) and Hilario Ilano as head of Imus Traffic Management Office (ITMO).
The 42-year-old Maliksi took the mayoral seat from Homer T. Saquilayan following the peaceful and orderly takeover at the town hall last December 28. The 56-year-old Saquilayan was ousted from office following a local court decision which declared Maliksi as the winner by 655 votes in the May 10, 2010 automated elections with the revision made on the protested ballots. Maliksi and Saquilayan are cousins.
Maliksi, upon assumption in office, has vowed to institute reforms with good performance and services, particularly in the midst of business, peace and order, education, health, tourism, cleanliness and environ-ment and culture, among other foremost concerns.
In an interview with reporters, Maliksi confirmed that he would revive his brainchild Flag Capital logo and the Wagayway Festival, which were not done during the last two celebrations.
“Opo, ibabalik natin yung Imus brand logo, yung flag capital, at yung Wagayway Festival,” Maliksi reiterated. (Yes, we will return the Imus brand logo, the flag capital, and the Wagayway Festival.)
A report said that that the first Philippine flag was first waved during the Battle of Alapaan on May 28, 1898.
The revolutionaries led by General Emilio F. Aguinaldo and Colonel S. Tagle waved the flag made by Marcela Agoncillo shortly after the battle victory, it was reported.
Aguinaldo again unfurled the same flag at his family house’s veranda in nearby Kawit town on June 12 of the same year along with the declaration of Philippine independence.
Imus celebrated the first Wagayway Festival from May 24 to May 28 of 2008 as a commencement of Araw ng Kalayaan (Independence Day) of the same year. The Festival was a brianchild of former Governor now Imus District Representative Erineo "Ayong" Maliksi.
