MANILA, Philippines — The Business Communications 07 class of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, in partnership with CHILD Foundation Inc. (prime supporter of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) pediatrics department), recently launched “Keeping the Dream Alive,” seeking to raise over P1 million for the purchase of incubators and pediatric beds for the pediatrics department of PGH.

Despite being the largest public hospital in the country, the PGH lacks dozens of medical equipment essential for the proper treatment of babies and kids. For example, the PGH has only three working incubators in the pediatric wards, where babies from other hospitals are transferred for specialist care. PGH serves over a thousand prematurely born and other critically ill babies admitted to the hospital yearly.

“Often times, goose neck lamps are used instead of incubators in the hopes of keeping babies warm, as any drop in temperature among the premature babies could possibly cause their deaths. However, these lamps are not always effective,” said Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla, president of CHILD Foundation Inc.

Dr. Padilla further stressed that adult-sized beds currently being used at the pediatric wards do not have the proper railings to prevent babies from falling off. To address these concerns, the Ateneo MBA students launched the campaign to acquire these medical equipment urgently needed by the PGH and its patients.

For those who wish to help, there are three ways. First, one can donate online using his credit or debit card through the foundation’s official website: http://www.childfoundationinc.org.ph.
