MANILA, Philippines — The Rizal Memorial diamond lights up this weekend with the opening of the softball and baseball competitions of UAAP Season 74 with reigning champions University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Adamson University still emerging as the teams to beat.
Softball competitions start Saturday with Adamson, hoping to snatch its 11th league crown, taking on La Salle in the opening game at 9 a.m.
At 11 a.m., it will be University of the Philippines (UP) against UST, while Ateneo battles University of the East (UE) at 1 p.m.
Also on Saturday, junior baseball action starts with Ateneo meeting La Salle-Zobel at 3 p.m.

Ateneo clashes with Adamson, while UP collides with National University also in the baseball matches on Sunday.
UST owns the most number of baseball championships with 24, followed by FEU with 13 and Adamson and UP with 11 each. Adamson won three straight, but the streak was broken last season by the Tigers.
