Game Sunday (Smart-Araneta Coliseum)

6 p.m. – B-Meg vs Powerade (do-or-die)

MANILA, Philippines — Powerade’s top offensive weapon Gary David emerged as the top scorer in the league, while do-it-all forward Arwind Santos of Petron Blaze the best rebounder at the end of the elimination round in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The 6-foot-1 David averaged 20.79 points through 14 games in the elimination, highlighted by a conference-best 42 points on 15-of-19 shooting from the field in their 108-94 win over the Boosters last Oct. 30.

He highlighted that by making four of his six tries from the 3-point area.

He also shone in the team’s 97-88 triumph opposite twice-to-beat B-Meg last Wednesday where he scored 32 points.

Included in the Top 5 scoring aside from David are B-Meg’s James Yap (18.57), Santos (18.21), Petron’s rookie Chris Lutz (18) and Meralco’s Mark Cardona (16.20).

The win forced a do-or-die game tomorrow at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum with the winner facing either Barangay Ginebra or Rain or Shine, two teams facing in a best-of-three quarterfinal series that started Friday at the Big Dome.

Defending champion Talk ’N Text already claimed the first slot in the best-of-seven semis, where it will face the survivor of the other series between Meralco and Petron.

Santos, meanwhile, is the only player this conference to average double-double in points and rebounds with 12.7 boards per game, followed by TNT’s Harvey Carey (11.1), Powerade’s Doug Kramer (10.5), Meralco’s Asi Taulava (10-2) and Alaska’s Jayr Reyes (10).

Another Petron player in point guard Alex Cabagnot leads the conference in assists with 7.1 per game, while Lutz is a defensive gem for the Boosters with 2.2 steals a game. TNT’s Japeth Aguilar is the human-eraser with 2.2 blocks per contest.

Aside from Lutz, among the rookies who averages double-figure in scoring are Powerade’s Marcio Lassiter (15.50), Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee (13.77), Barako Bull’s Dylan Ababou (11.85), James Sena of newcomer Shopinas.com (11.07), Mac Baracael of Alaska (10.57) and top rookie pick JV Casio of Powerade (10.36).

Sena is the best rebounder among the newcomers (9.4), while Casio leads the rookies in assist department (5.5).
