MANILA, Philippines — There are those that love to enjoy their rewards and there are those that never let a moment pass. For either, there’s a One perfectly suited for them. This was the theme of  the official launch of the All-New BMW 1 Series, hosted by Asian Carmarkers Corporation (ACC), the official importer of BMW cars in the Philippines.

Held last Nov.  23 at its Prestige Cars, Makati dealership, hosts for the evening were celebrity footballers Anton and Arman del Rosario who highlighted the differences between two kinds of lifestyles, the sporty and the urban. The launch event introduced numerous improvements to the second generation entry-level BMW model.

“The All-New BMW 1 Series offers state-of-the-art engine and suspension technology, further improvements in fuel efficiency, significantly more space and an innovative range of features and equipment,” said ACC president Maricar Parco.

Among the improvements is the departure from the previous variants and the introduction of two new design packages, the Urban and Sport lines.

“The All-New BMW 1 Series Sport Line and Urban Line is our response to the ever-changing driving needs of our consumers,” explained Parco.

Each line boasts of exclusive features, distinct details and amenities not found in the other. The Sport Line, for example, appropriately has a more aggressive bumper and grille design, larger wheels and more sporting trim in the interior. In addition to the three modes, COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO available for use, the Sport also can be fitted with a fourth SPORT+ mode.

In the Urban Line model, the bumper and grille appear more civil. Smaller wheels equipped, provide a more comfortable ride. Inside, the interior details are more luxury oriented.

Appearances aside, both will still benefit from the size increase in the body of the All-New BMW 1 Series, more legroom and a larger luggage compartment. Both lines will be powered by a 2.0 liter common rail TwinPower  Turbo diesel. These engines can produce as much as 143 horsepower and rocket the car to 100 km/h in just 9.1 seconds. The standard eight-speed automatic transmission, provides faster, smother gear changes and better fuel-efficiency. A rear-wheel drive layout, even weight distribution and improved stability help its reputation for good handling.

As for safety, numerous electronic aids like a braking system with DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ABS (anti-lock braking system), DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), CBC (Cornering Brake Control) and DBC (Dynamic Braking Control) are now augmented with braking assistance, fading compensation, brake drying, hill assist, and, in DSC Off mode, an electronic rear axle differential locking system.

A wide range of BMW EfficientDynamics technology has also been integrated into the car, such as Brake Energy Re-generation, electromechanical servo-assisted steering, as well as the unique-in-its-class features including the Eight-speed automatic transmission with the Automatic Start / Stop function and ECO PRO mode.

In addition to the two lines, BMW offers a third standard model, powered by a 1.6 liter TwinPower Turbo petrol engine.

With distinct personalities, improved functionality, and numerous driver assistance systems the second generation entry-level BMW model hopes to lure buyers with the kind of all around value previously available only in higher segments.
