Cartoon Network and Silas Hickey are at it again

MANILA, Philippines — Cartoon Network’s Creative Director for the region came to the country for the second time recently to continue his quest in finding just the right talents to kick of the dream project of our very own “Philippine-ized” cartoon hopefully in 2012 and also to find the right Filipino studio to produce Cartoon Network’s materials. In line with the annual Animahenasyon event, Silas Hickey drew a clearer picture of who the network wants to partner with in creating newer and more exciting shows for the year to come.
An enthusiastic Silas told the media guests about his journey in finding the right Filipino tale to make into a cartoon. He presented this as a challenge to the media attendees, who were also cartoon enthusiasts. He added that for a local cartoon to click, it has to be a Filipino story with touches of the modern world. A modern Ibong Adarna maybe? The guest speaker was so excited and positive about the project because he had found so many talented young Filipinos with very unique ideas. During the course of the event, there were pitches for new episodes for old cartoons like Dexter’s Lab and Samurai Jack.
Silas invites everyone—young, old, men, women—to join in and contribute to the project by sending in their ideas to the network. You don’t have to draw! If you have a story in mind, simply write it down and they can do the drawing for you.
