MANILA, Philippines — The defending champions in UAAP volleyball took different routes at the start of their Season 74 campaign with De La Salle surviving Adamson University in the women’s contest and University of Santo Tomas (UST) yielding to University of the Philippines (UP) in the men’s side.

The Green Archers struggled before eking out a 25-20, 25-23, 13-25, 25-22 victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons last Sunday.

The Lady Archers gave away 44 points on errors but were able to get into the groove in the final set.

Also on Sunday in men’s action, Sam Paquiz registered 26 hits and three blocks and Mico Lucindo and Luis Miguel Apostol each had 11 points as UP stung defending four-time champion UST, 25-22, 18-25, 18-25, 25-23, 18-16.

The other men’s results, Ateneo beat UE, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21, Far Eastern University downed De La Salle, 25-16, 17-25, 25-23, 25-16; and NU overcame Adamson, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-8.
