MANILA, Philippines — Visayas powerhouse University of Cebu expressed its readiness to compete for a spot in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League semifinals.

Led by the 6-foot-10 center Junmar Fajardo, the two-time CESAFI champion Webmasters will try to win two games in two days at the Ormoc City Superdome in the hope of joining the Final Four.

Already in the semis which starts on Dec. 5 at The Arena in San Juan are UAAP champion Ateneo and NCAA titlist San Beda.

San Sebastian and Letran will dispute the other spot for the Luzon squad tomorrow at 2 p.m. also in Ormoc City.

UC must first hurdle the Mindanao champion STI College from Cagayan de Oro City today.

A victory will earn them a date with the winner of either CESAFI runner-up Southwestern University or the champion of the Visayas regional tournament.

"We have never played against the (STI) Olympians, and so far, what we just know about them is that they are able to mount an effective running game to beat their opponents," said UC team manager Atty. Baldomero Estenzo. —Jonas Terrado
