Nonito Donaire's chosen singers excited to perform in his fight

MANILA, Philippines – Young singers Tiffany Viray and Lianah Sta. Ana are both thrilled to have been chosen by Nonito Donaire, Jr. to perform the Filipino and US national anthems, respectively, in his Oct. 22 fight against Omar Narvaez.
"I am very excited. It's every Filipino singer's dream to be singing the ‘Lupang Hinirang.’ I am really honored and proud to be Pinoy," said the 14-year-old Viray in a report on Philboxing.com.
The 12-year-old Sta. Ana, meanwhile, enthused, "I am really proud, I am really happy. I am just grateful that God has given me this task. I heard about it from my parents a couple of hours ago and I am just very happy to be a part of this event.”
Donaire, dubbed as “The Filipino Flash,” declared the winners of his online singing search last Oct. 15 during his open workout at the Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York.
"We want to thank all who participated in the search, all of them are just amazing and it was just hard for us to decide. We want to congratulate Tiffany and Lianah here, who did great in their renditions. Both of them are phenomenal, their voice is great and they have national pride,” said Donaire, describing the two young Freehold, New Jersey singers.
The star pugilist opened the auditions earlier this month, announcing via his official Facebook page, “Guys, Im looking for 2 separate National Anthem singers: US Anthem can be any nationality; RP National Anthem would of course like to be Filipino. I know I can get professionals to sing this, but I want to give the opportunity to those who wouldn't necessarily have the chance to. So send in your videos, bios, and contact info to fan@filipinoflash.com.”
Winners have been handpicked by Donaire together with his wife Rachel, added the Philboxing.com report.
Viray and Sta. Ana, who are in ninth and seventh grades, respectively, have had wins in a number of singing competitions even at an early age. As cited in the same Philboxing.com report, both have placed first on separate occasions in a popular singing competition in Harlem, New York called Amateur Night at the Apollo.
