UK boxer idolizes sparring mate Pacquiao
United Kingdom -- After converting Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson into a fan, boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao inspires yet another boxer.
But, he’s no ordinary boxer: It's 24-year-old British fighter Amir Khan, also Pacquiao’s sparring mate, reported loQal.ph.
In an interview with UK's The Independent, Khan, who is set to defend his WBA light welterweight title against Ireland’s Paul McCloskey on April 16, talked of Pacquiao whom he calls “the greatest boxer in the world.”
“I may look arrogant in the ring but I’ve always been humble. More so now because even though he is the greatest boxer in the world Manny is incredibly humble. He is an example to me, and I try to be an example to youngsters back home,” he said.
Khan, who served as Pacquiao’s sparring mate in preparation for the latter’s fight against Sugar Shane Mosley on May 7, is known for his flashy hand speed and footwork. In past reports, he predicted Pacquiao will finish the fight against Mosley not past the eighth round.
As reported, Freddie Roach will juggle between training Pacquiao and Khan for their respective fights.
