The Smart-Gilas RP Team will continue to play in the PBA Philippine Cup as guest team even if its remaining games will be no-bearing against the pro teams.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and the PBA have reached an agreement to go on with the Nationals’ participation in the league but on certain terms and conditions, including the use of FIBA or amateur rules.

“Everything has been cleared for Smart-Gilas to resume our guest stint in the PBA,” SBP executive director Noli Eala said yesterday.

“We’re thankful to (PBA) commissioner Sonny Barrios for ensuring that the Gilas games versus PBA teams will be played under condition and terms of engagement,” Eala added.

He also said that the latest agreement will not only be competitive and exciting but “totally helpful and in line with the objective of the national team program” in preparation for the upcoming international events.
