Donaire, Bernabe to headline Arum card

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is showcasing another round of Filipino punching prowess when Nonito Donaire and Bernabe Concepcion take on touted rivals on August 15 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
Dubbed “Pinoy Power 2”, the main event will see Donaire clash with Rafael Concepcion of Panama for the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) super-flyweight crown.
In the main supporting fight, Concepcion challenges American Steven Luevano for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight throne.
Arum, whose promotional outfit Top Rank will stage the slambang show, will hold a press conference on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) at the Hard Rock Hotel to officially announce the card.
Top Rank publicist Ricardo Jimenez said another Filipino puncher — super-lightweight prospect Mark Jason Melligen of the Antonio L. Aldeguer Stable of Cebu — will see action in the undercard.
Arum had described Melligen, formerly an amateur standout, as a “terrific fighter” following his smashing performance two weeks ago in Ensenada, Mexico.
Arum has had a taste of the Filipino boxers’ furious fists with Manny Pacquiao as his flagship fighter but is likewise enthralled with the arrival of new blood in Donaire, Concepcion, Melligen, and Brian Viloria.
Viloria is being primed to showcase his stuff sometime in September in Manila or Cebu in another partnership between Top Rank and Solar Sports.
Viloria and Donaire had starred in a huge show at the Araneta Coliseum last April when Top Rank and Solar Sports first joined hands.
