Fil-Am girl earns slot in ‘Fame’ remake
Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, granddaughter of Filipino showbiz icon Sylvia La Torre, has nabbed a coveted role in the Hollywood remake of 80s classic film, “Fame.”
“I’m very excited. I’m so…thrilled,” she said in a recent interview.
The 18-year old will play the role of Joy; an "exuberant aspiring actress," as she puts it.
The Oscar-winning musical, touted as this year’s “Mamma Mia!,” wrapped up its filming in New York City late February. Some 10 relative newcomers are being introduced via the movie. Tagle is one of them.
The upcoming Hollywood actress said she could relate to her character in that she had been acting, singing, and dancing, since she was a kid.
"I can't choose between acting, singing, or dancing. It's too hard. The great thing about ‘Fame’ is that I get to do all three."
Tagle studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts until ninth grade.
“I had to go into home schooling after everything got so busy,” she said.
Tagle is also signed up as Disney artist. She got her first big break at age 12, when she got the part of Ashley Dewitt in the Disney TV series, “Hannah Montana” which stars Miley Cyrus.
Last year, Tagle was cast in “Camp Rock,” along with Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers.
“The Disney people are so happy for me,” she shared. “No matter what happens after 'Fame, I will never leave Disney.”
Tagle said that Sylvia La Torre is happy for all her Hollywood successes.
