Regulated cemetery visits in San Juan City starts Oct. 16

Regulated visits in cemeteries in San Juan City starts today, October 16.

Mayor Francis Zamora inspected the San Juan City Cemetery and other private cemeteries and columbaria at the start of the regulated cemetery visits to ensure that health and safety measures are in place

Last month, Zamora issued Executive Order No. FMZ-051 where visitors were told to adhere to a reservation scheme in all cemeteries and columbaria from October 16 to 28 and from November 5 to 15.

The mayor said this is to allow families to visit their departed loved ones before burial grounds are closed to the public nationwide from October 29 to November 4 to prevent mass gathering.

“I just thought there has to be another way of letting the people pay homage to their loved ones within the season month without putting anyone at risk because of the virus,” he said.

“That is why I issued this EO designating certain dates that these facilities will be open for public but subject to prior reservation and registration that would ensure that the venue capacity being imposed by the IATF is complied with,” he added.

Visitors can book a reservation online through (www.picktime.com/sanjuancityundas2020). They can also call or text 7728-9818 or 0915-1627152 to reserve a slot. A confirmation slip will be issued once the reservation is made.

San Juan city started accepting reservations on October 1.

Visitors are only allowed to stay at the cemeteries for two hours. Each slot will only allow up to two family members. However, they will be allowed to reserve multiple time slots to give all family members time to visit.

Each batch can only accommodate 270 people or less than 30 percent capacity of cemeteries to ensure that physical distancing is observed.

Aside from the scheduled visits, health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced. Visitors must first undergo thermal scanning and sign a health declaration form upon entering the cemetery.

Wearing of face mask and face shield is a must.

Selling of food and refreshments, flowers, and candles will not be allowed in the facilities. Visitors are requested to bring their own food, flowers, candles, and other offerings.
