La Mesa Dam’s water has swelled close to its spilling level on Sunday afternoon due to incessant rains caused by a low pressure area and southwest monsoon or “habagat,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 5:50 p.m., La Mesa Dam’s water level has reached 79.81 meters, and “may overflow once it reaches 80.15 meters.”
“It is expected to (further) rise due to continuous moderate rains tonight (Oct. 11),” PAGASA warned.
La Mesa Dam authorities have alerted residents living along Tullahan River of possible flooding.
Communities that will likely be affected are Fairview, Forest Hills, Quirino Highway, Papri, Goodwill, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome in Quezon City, Barangay Ligon along North Luzon Expressway in Valenzuela, and Malabon.
La Mesa Dam has no floodgates allowing the excess water to spill and flow into the nearby Tullahan River. (Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz)
