Vehicular traffic is expected to further worsen in Mandaluyong City and Makati City as the due repair / rehabilitation of the Estrella- Pantaleon Bridge will get underway tomorrow, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
By 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 23, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic," said Jose Arturo Garcia, MMDA general manager.
He said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will build a new and wider bridge.
"From two lanes, the replacement bridge will have four lanes," he said.
Due to the construction, thousands of vehicles going in and out of the two cities will be diverted to Guadalupe Bridge, he said.
“An average of 100,000 vehicles traverse the bridge on a daily basis. We are talking about 5,000 vehicles per hour here,” Garcia said.
“Please bear with us. This is just one project under the government’s effort to address traffic in Metro Manila,” Garcia appealed.
The MMDA added that other DPWH projects affecting traffic in the metropolis are repairs on Old Sta. Mesa Bridge, Nagtahan Bridge, Mabini Bridge, Concordia Bridge, Otis Bridge, and Sevilla Bridge.
