Lim to build 'Super Health Centers' in Manila

By Erma Edera Returning Manila mayoral candidate Alfredo Lim vowed to put up ‘Super Health Centers’ to strengthen public health if elected mayor on May 13. (FACEBOOK/ MANILA BULLETIN) (FACEBOOK/ MANILA BULLETIN) Lim said the services that will be provided by these health centers will be similar to those being offered free at city-run hospitals during his administration. The Super Health Centers will be like mini-hospitals that will have facilities such as CT scan, x-ray machine and other medical equipment. Lim said the lone city-run hospital, Ospital ng Maynila in the fifth district, should be closer to the poor especially those who need medical care. Those in need of medical attention would no longer have to spend money for transportation if the services offered in city hospitals are already available in Super Health Centers’ near them, Lim said. In addition to this, a medical caravan or mobile clinic will go around depressed areas in the city to offer certain health services. According to Lim, the ‘Super Health Centers’ will complement the six city hospitals and the already existing 59 barangay health centers that were all established during his previous term as mayor. Lim, who became Manila mayor in 1992 introduced the ‘womb to tomb program’ which offered free health services to residents from the time of birth until death. He also built one free hospital for each of the five districts - the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center (1st District), Ospital ng Tondo (2nd District), Mother and Child General Hospital (3rd District), Ospital ng Sampaloc (4th District), and Sta. Ana Hospital, (6th District).
