Duets To Watch Out For This Valentine Season
MANILA, Philippines — Concert scene’s peak season this love of month goes off with a number of worth-seeing duets. Who gets the loudest applause and most positive reviews is for audiences to decide.
Nyoy, Juris Sing Movie Themes
The two acoustic acts join forces in singing theme songs from hit films shown in the past three decades. Their repertoire will include “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” (“Armageddon”), “Love Is All Around” (“Four Weddings And A Funeral”), “Can You Read My Mind” (“Superman”) and “I Finally Found Someone” (“The Mirror Has Two Faces”).
Aptly titled “Love Cinemelody,” the show is taking place at Hard Rock Café in Makati on Feb. 14, 9 p.m. Critics are dubbing the tandem as “a fusion of two of the finest voices in the music industry today.”
Nyoy, a recent Awit Awardee for Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist, is bound to have a busy year ahead with the March re-run (at RCBC Plaza, Makati) of Atlantis Productions’ In The Heights wherein he plays lead character Usnavi. He is also set to release his new album “Prince of Acoustic Pop” under MCA Music.
Juris, on the other hand, is enjoying success as a solo act, arguably even outshining her former band MYMP which continued performing after the fallout between her and guitarist Chin Alcantara.
Lea Shares Stage With Ingram
Concert producer Joed Serrano had only Lea Salonga in mind when he shopped for James Ingram’s partner to sing “Somewhere Out There” at the Big Dome on Feb. 17. The track is his favorite Ingram song.
“Pagpasok ni Lea na to my surprise is available on the concert dates, I became more confident na for me talaga ang concert na ’to,” the former actor said.
Serrano, with his business partner Cora Rodrigo, is bringing for the first time a foreign act after pulling off a string of gigs featuring Pinoy stars performing abroad. His production outfit, That’s Ntertainment, is taking the James Ingram concert to Cebu on February 18 at the Waterfront Hotel, Lahug City.
Regine, Ogie Do It As Husband And Wife
When asked by a reporter if audiences can expect for something new on their Valentine show “Mr. And Mrs. A,” she initially quipped, “Pareho lang din ng ibang concert, magkakantahan kami.”
Then she elaborated, “Actually it’s our first concert together as husband and wife. May mga kakantahin din kami dito na we usually don’t sing.”
The Feb. 14 Smart Araneta concert stands to benefit cancer-stricken kids.
Sharon-Martin Chemistry Tested
By the time this write-up comes out, the Sharon Cuneta-Martin Nievera concert at the Big Dome is over, meaning critics have already figured out the kind of chemistry obtaining between them. While there had been rumors that ticket sales of their show was challenged by a supposedly smaller gig featuring comedians Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, this concert is still worthy of being called “Once In A Lifetime,” taking into consideration the enormous personalities involved.
A second night is happening on the 14th at Waterfront Cebu.
