NBA All Star Reserves named
The players who will be joining the NBA All Star Starters to be held on February 26, 2012 have been officially announced based the votes cast by the NBA coaches.
Leading the NBA West reserves are Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas and Steven Nash of the Phoenix Suns. The rest of the West reserves include LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland), Marc Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies), Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs), and Russel Westbrook (OKC Thunder).
They will be joining the West conference starters. Earlier voted on by the fans were Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum (LA Lakers), Chris Paul and Blake Griffin (LA Clippers) and Kevin Durant (OKC Thunder).
For Gasol and Aldridge, this will be the first time playing in the NBA All-Star game.
Tim Duncan, who would have made his 14th consecutive all-star appearance but was unfortunately not chosen. Other players who could have made it included Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings and Lamar Odom of the Mavericks.
Over in the East, Pierce will be joined by Chris Bosh (Miami Heat), Luol Deng (Chicago Bulls), Roy Hibbert (Indiana Pacers), Andre Iguodala (Philadephia 76ers), Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) and Deron Williams (New Jersey Nets).
Of the Eastern reserves, the first timers are Iguodala, Hibbert and Deng. They will be backing up the Eastern conference starters which include Dwyane Wade and Lebron James of the Heat, reigning MVP Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.
Like Duncan, some notable names seem to have been passed up over in the East.
Among them include Boston’s Kevin Garnett who has played for 14 consecutive seasons as an All-Star.
Missing names who could have easily made the Eastern reserves included the likes of Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Brandon Jennings, Rudy Gay, Monta Ellis and Kyle Lowry.
Regardless, the rosters are not yet final. The snubbed players may get the chance to be called on should any of the picked All-stars have an injury. However, it will be up to NBA commissioner David Stern to choose who would replace the injured player/s.
